My local shop keeps calling a light roast 'breakfast blend' and it's driving me nuts
I've seen three cafes in my city do this, where they label a bright, acidic light roast as a breakfast blend, even though traditional breakfast blends are usually smoother and medium-bodied. It matters because new folks get the wrong idea about what to expect from their morning cup. Do you think the term 'breakfast blend' has totally lost its original meaning?

The marketing term "breakfast blend" now just means "the cheapest beans we have.

My buddy ordered a breakfast blend last week and got a cup so sour he thought it was lemon tea... so yeah, maybe the term is just for any light roast now.

It's like everything now gets watered down until the label just means "whatever we had left." Breakfast blend used to mean something specific, now it's just a box you check for marketing. Same thing happened with "artisan bread" back in the 2000s, every grocery store had it and it was just white bread in a different package. Language just stops meaning anything once companies figure out people will pay more for a familiar name. You ever notice how "natural flavor" on a package basically tells you nothing at all?
