My old French press gave out on me this morning and I'm stuck on what to do next.
I was making my first cup, like I do every day, and the glass carafe just cracked right down the side when I poured the hot water in. It was a cheap one I got in Portland about five years ago, so I guess it had a good run. Now I'm trying to decide if I should just buy another simple press or finally try something different, like a pour-over setup or a small Moka pot. Part of me wants the same easy routine back, but another part thinks this is a sign to branch out. I'm worried a new method will be too much fuss for my morning, but maybe the coffee would taste better. Has anyone else had their daily brewer break and switched to something totally new? What did you pick?

I mean, that's the worst way to start a day. Are you leaning more towards wanting better coffee or just keeping the morning routine as simple as possible?

My old coffee maker sounded like a garbage truck compacting a metal shed. I switched to a basic pour-over setup and it's been quiet for three years now. The fancy machines are a trap, they just want to break right after the warranty ends. I'd take a simple, reliable cup over a robot death rattle any morning. You can always get better beans for the simple method. It's the machine's job to be quiet and hot, not put on a show.

Honestly I'm leaning towards better coffee but my track record with fancy machines is pretty bad. Last one I had started making sounds like a dying robot. Maybe simple is safer for everyone involved?
