Question about pour-over kettles: was I just being stubborn?
I've been making coffee with a standard drip machine for maybe 15 years. Last month my daughter bought me a gooseneck kettle and a ceramic V60 for my birthday. I thought it was just another gadget that would end up in the back of a cabinet. But after using it every morning for 3 weeks, I'm starting to think I was wrong about the whole pour-over thing. The coffee does taste cleaner and I can actually control the temperature better. I've even started timing my pours. For anyone who switched from an auto drip to manual pour-over, did it take you a while to get used to it? And do you still go back to the machine sometimes, or did you fully switch?

Honestly, I can't believe you went 15 years with a drip machine before trying this. That's wild to me. Ngl, once I got a gooseneck and a V60 I never looked back. The drip machine went straight to the back of the cabinet and honestly it's probably still there gathering dust. The control you get over the water temp and the pour speed makes such a difference. Timing your pours sounds a bit extra but I get it, once you start you can't stop. Welcome to the club, you're not stubborn, you were just late.

My V60 was a gift from my brother too, and I remember unboxing it thinking "great, another thing to clean." But after about a week of using it I noticed the same thing, the coffee just tasted clearer somehow. It took me a solid month before I stopped feeling like I was doing a science experiment every morning with the timer and the scale. Now I only pull out my old drip machine if I'm making coffee for a bunch of people at once, otherwise it's just me and the gooseneck every single day.
