Rolled my eyes at the $5 pour-over at that shop on 23rd, but man was I wrong

Went to Brew Lab in Austin last month with my friend who's super into third wave coffee. I'm usually a French press guy, $20 for a bag of beans max. She insisted I try their Ethiopia natural process pour-over. $5 for a cup of coffee seemed ridiculous. But the flavor was totally different - like blueberries and dark chocolate, no bitterness at all. I didn't even add sugar. Has anyone else had a coffee experience that changed their mind about spending more?

Started out thinking the same way honestly. I used to buy whatever was on sale at the grocery store and called it good. Then a barista talked me into trying a single origin pour-over last spring and it tasted like someone added honey to it but there was no sweetener at all. Completely changed how I see coffee prices. Now I save the fancy beans for weekends and still use my french press during the week. What was the first one that got you?

Oh man, that honey thing got me too! I'd recommend starting with a natural processed Ethiopian bean if you want that same fruity sweetness at home, it's the most forgiving for beginners. A decent burr grinder made way more difference for me than upgrading my brew method ever did.
