Showerthought: most people don't realize how much sugar is in a plain latte

I was looking up nutrition facts for my usual morning latte and found out a 16oz latte has like 25-30 grams of sugar even with zero flavored syrup. That's mostly just from the milk itself, which I never really thought about. I always assumed the sugar came from syrups or sweeteners but nope, it's the lactose. Kinda blew my mind because I've been telling myself lattes aren't that bad for years. Now I'm wondering if switching to oat milk is actually better or just swapping one type of sugar for another. Has anyone else looked into this and found a good low sugar option that still tastes decent?

Read somewhere that oat milk actually has almost as much sugar as regular milk, sometimes more depending on the brand. If you really want low sugar, unsweetened almond milk is the way to go, but it's watery and doesn't froth the same.

Notice this is the same trick they pull with "healthy" granola bars and yogurt, slapping a health label on something that's basically sugar with extra steps. We've been trained to think natural sugar doesn't count, but your body really doesn't care if it's lactose or high fructose corn syrup. It's just another reminder that most "healthy" options at the store are just marketing dressed up in different packaging.
