That old barista who made me my first pour over still sticks with me
I was in Seattle about 7 years ago, some random shop near Pike Place, and this grizzled guy spent 6 minutes showing me how he grinds the beans by eye instead of using a scale. He said "the numbers lie if your nose doesn't agree." Has anyone else had a coffee person who changed how you look at making it?

Did he grind enough for your whole cup, or just make a show of it?

Honestly @julia_jones72, that's the real question. Ngl, most baristas just do a quick flick of the wrist for show. If he actually dialed in the dose and timed the shot, then yeah he earned that cup. But if it was all clumpy and channeling, that's just theater. Tbh, I've seen too many coffee shops where the grind looks good but the extraction is garbage.
