Why does nobody talk about how bad espresso tastes from a superauto machine

Last month I visited my brother in Portland and he insisted I try his $1,200 superauto machine. He bragged about the one-button convenience for 20 minutes. The shot came out watery and sour, no crema at all. I told him my $200 manual machine from a garage sale makes better espresso every single time. Has anyone else gotten rid of their superauto after actually tasting the difference?

Honestly my buddy dropped $900 on a superauto and I felt like a jerk when I brought over my $50 pawn shop Gaggia and pulled a shot that actually had crema. He looked at his machine like it just insulted his mom. Ngl I get the convenience thing but it's like buying a sports car that only goes 30 mph. I'm probably biased though since I treat my espresso routine like a weird ritual and my hands shake if I don't tamp something first. Tbh I'm probably the exact annoying person casey_lane73 was talking about but at least I can admit I'm a pretentious espresso snob who's broke from buying fresh beans instead of a machine.

People get way too worked up about espresso machines honestly. My cousin has one of those superautos and yeah the shots aren't amazing but he makes like 4 lattes every morning before work and doesn't want to stand there grinding and tamping. Not everyone cares about perfect crema or whatever. If you're the type who obsesses over every detail of a shot then sure a superauto probably isn't for you but for people who just want a decent caffeine fix with zero effort they do the job fine. Your brother probably thinks the machine makes good espresso because he doesn't know what good espresso actually is and that's okay. Getting mad about it just feels like gatekeeping honestly.
