TIL the old truck stop on I-25 south of Pueblo used to be the spot every small hauler in the state met up
I stopped there for coffee a while back and the lot was maybe a quarter full, mostly RVs. Twenty five years ago my old boss ran his two trucks out of a shop near there and he swears every independent owner in southern Colorado knew each other by first name because that diner was the unofficial office. Now the big brokers and load boards killed all that, you just take what the app gives you and never talk to another soul. He said he could call three guys in Pueblo and have a backhaul lined up before his eggs got cold. Any other old timers here miss when this business ran on handshakes and phone calls instead of apps?
