Hit issue #178 of Ultimate Spider-Man and finally realized why people love it

Everyone raves about the early stuff but I honestly didn't get the hype until that issue where Peter has to borrow money from Aunt May for rent. It just clicked for me right then, has anyone else had a specific issue change their mind on a run?

Yeah, that's a solid pick, but I gotta gently push back on calling it issue #178. The rent money scene with Aunt May actually happens in issue #38 of the original 2000 run, not 178. Still, I totally get what you mean about that moment being the one that makes everything click into place, it's where the human side of the story really hits you.

Issue #38 is definitely the one I remember, I read it in a collected edition a few years back and that scene hit me way harder than I expected. I think it's because Aunt May isn't just worried about the rent, she's worried about Peter and the whole weight of being a kid trying to take care of his family. It's one of those little moments that makes the whole spider-man thing feel so much more real than most superhero stories.
