Hot take: That old comic shop owner who told me silver age books were gonna pop was actually right

I blew off this guy at a show in Portland 3 years ago when he said to buy any Silver Age Flash or GL I could find under $50, thought he was just trying to move inventory. Now I'm kicking myself because I passed on a dozen books that'd be worth triple that easy. Anyone else get burned by ignoring older collectors?

Man that hurts just reading it. My own personal fail was ignoring this crusty dude at a con who told me to grab any old Daredevil 1st prints for like $20 back in 2018. Thought he was just trying to dump his junk on me. Now I see those same books going for $80-$100 and I wanna rewind time and slap myself for being so stubborn. Older collectors usually know their stuff because they lived through the cycles already. Guess we both learned the hard way that listening to the graybeards pays off sometimes.

Haha yeah I definitely feel that... I passed on a stack of Ultimate Fallout 4s at a flea market back in 2012 because the guy wanted $15 each and I thought that was too much for a comic I'd never heard of. Still haunts me every time I see that book going for hundreds now. You're right about the old timers though, they've been around long enough to spot a deal from a mile away. Now I just nod and grab whatever they point me toward, no questions asked.
