My comic guy in Tulsa said the quiet part out loud about variant covers and now I can't unhear it
I was digging through the dollar bins at a shop in Tulsa two weeks ago when the owner, Ray, started talking about variant covers. He said he orders 40 copies of a book just to get one rare cover, and the other 39 sit in a box in the back for years. I asked him why he keeps doing it and he just said "cause the speculators pay my rent." That got me thinking about how much of my own pull list is stuff I actually read versus stuff I'm hoping goes up in value. I went home and counted, and 11 of the 22 books I pull every month are ones I have not even opened yet. Ray said most of his regulars are the same way, buying for the cover and not the story. It kind of bugs me that I might be part of the problem. Do you guys still buy floppies to read them, or is it mostly about the variants for you too?
