My friend buys the same X-Men comic multiple times and I don't get it
He says the cover art changes everything, but I think it's just the same story inside.

Did your friend say if he actually reads all the copies or just owns them? Some people only care about collecting the different cover art, they don't open the extra books. It's a whole thing for collectors, they like having all the variants. I knew a guy who would buy three copies of the same issue just to frame one cover. Sounds weird but it's pretty normal for comic fans.

But what's the point of having all those books if you never read them, @murphy.sarah? You said some people just care about cover art, but doesn't that miss the whole story? I guess it's like buying a movie and never watching it, right?

Actually, some folks see books as beautiful objects all on their own. My neighbor has a whole shelf of fancy leather-bound classics just for the way they look in her living room. She gets joy from owning them, like art, even if she reads a paperback copy instead.
