Paid $80 for a signed Silver Surfer #4 and it's clearly fake

I bought it off eBay from a seller with decent ratings. The signature looked right in the photos but when it arrived the ink was smudging on the glossy cover. I took it to my local shop in Portland and the owner laughed. Said it's a known reprint with a forged sig that goes around. I'm out $80 plus shipping and the seller ghosted me. Anyone else get burned on fake signed books?

Sucks hard, man. @kaip11 is right though, hit up PayPal or your card for a chargeback, that usually gets their attention fast.

That Portland shop owner probably saved you from wasting more money on eBay. The glossy cover smudging is a dead giveaway, waterbased ink just sits on top of that coating instead of soaking in like it would on older paper. There's a guy on the CGC forums who keeps a running list of known fake signatures and reprint combos, I think Silver Surfer #4 is right near the top of it. You might try disputing it with your credit card company even though the seller ghosted, PayPal has been pretty good about refunds for stuff like this in my experience (if you used them).
