Update: I used to gatekeep my comic collection like it was Fort Knox
For years, I wouldn't let anyone touch my longboxes, not even my nephew. Then I saw his face light up when I finally gave him a copy of 'Ultimate Spider-Man' #1 to read, and it clicked. How do you guys handle letting new readers borrow your books?

Watched my buddy loan a mint-condition 'X-Men' to his cousin who returned it with a taco sauce stain. He just shrugged and said the look on her face was worth more than the book. Sometimes the risk is the whole point.

Sometimes the risk is the whole point" is a nice way to put it, xena873. I guess if you're going to lose a mint book, you might as well get a good story. It's like paying for a live show where the main act is your cousin's guilt. A taco sauce stain is a pretty specific badge of honor. That comic is now a lesson in letting go, with a side of salsa verde.
