Vent: my Wednesday pull list run turned into a $60 mistake at the shop on 5th
I hit my local shop last Wednesday for my usual stack and the guy behind the counter talked me into three variant covers I did not need. I got home and my wife pointed out I spent $60 on books I already owned in plain covers, and I still have not cracked two of them open. Do you all stick to your list or grab the shiny ones when the clerk starts chatting?
That 5th street shop must have a guy who knows exactly which buttons to push, because mine does the same thing with the foil covers. What helped me was setting a hard cash budget before I walk in, like $25, and leaving the card at home so the clerk's pitch just bounces off. Your wife catching it is actually a gift, because two unopened variants sitting there are just guilt with a cover price.
