Warning: I switched from a pull list at my shop to mail order and now I feel weird walking in
So about 6 months ago my local shop in Sacramento raised hold fees and started bagging stuff I never asked for, so I moved my whole pull list to an online service that ships monthly. The online thing is cheaper, like $8 flat shipping and 20% off covers, and my books show up bagged and boarded in a nice box every time. But here is the part nobody warns you about. I walked into the shop last Saturday just to browse and the owner asked if I was still collecting, and I had to stand there and explain that I buy from a warehouse now. It felt like telling your grandma you stopped coming to Sunday dinner. The weird thing is I actually read more now because the box shows up and I sit down with it, instead of the stack piling up on the floor for 2 months. But I miss the tables and the guys arguing about which Batman run counts. Anyone else move to mail order and then feel too awkward to go back to the counter? And did you ever switch back or just start buying trades there to smooth it over?
