Went to a big con in Chicago and saw how differently two fans handled a rare back-issue find.
One guy just bought the book, but the other spent 20 minutes talking to the seller and got the same comic plus the full story behind its 1978 printing error, which is way better for a real collection. What's your best 'talk, don't just buy' story?

Oh man, that second guy gets it. I watched a guy at a flea market just buy a weird old radio, but my buddy asked the seller about it and found out it was handmade by a local ham operator in the 60s. The story is now taped inside the back panel.

I mean... it's just stuff at the end of the day. People get so deep about a story on a piece of wood or a radio. It's cool, sure, but you can't take it with you. My uncle has a garage full of junk with "stories" and it's just... junk. Sometimes a radio is just a radio.

Totally, that's the whole point of collecting for me lol. My best find was a beat up old fishing lure at a yard sale. The lady running it saw me looking at it and told me it was the last one her dad ever carved before he passed. That story is worth more than any mint condition thing in a box. You just can't buy that kind of connection, you gotta earn it by showing you actually care.
