Went to a local comic book signing and got a lecture instead of an autograph

I took my old Amazing Spider-Man #300 to a signing at Comic Kingdom in Austin last Saturday and the artist spent 15 minutes telling me I was storing it wrong. He said the bag was too tight and the board was cheap, then pulled out his own supplies to show me the difference. I ended up leaving with a new storage system and a sore arm from holding the book up. Has anyone else had a creator get super picky about your collection at a con?

Gotta say though, Amazing Spider-Man #300 was actually the first full appearance of Venom, not the first cameo. That was in #299 where he shows up at the end. Still a killer book to have though.

Actually always thought #300 was the first appearance period until someone broke it down for me like this. I mean, I had both issues as a kid and never really paid attention to the technicalities. Your explanation makes total sense though, the quick reveal at the end of 299 is definitely more of a cameo. Idk why but it never clicked for me that the full costume and the real battle was in 300. Guess I gotta update how I talk about it now.
