A foreman in Denver told me my floor prep was costing the painters extra time.
He pulled me aside after a big office fit-out and said, 'Your seams are clean, but you're leaving too much dust in the air for the next crew.' I switched to using a HEPA vac for my final sanding pass and started sealing off the area with plastic. Has anyone else found a simple change that made a big difference for the trades coming in after you?

Man, that's a solid move right there. It's easy to get stuck in your own routine and forget how your work messes with the next guy's day. That foreman did you a favor by speaking up. Switching to the HEPA vac and sealing the area shows real respect for the whole crew. Those little changes in prep work make the whole job site run smoother for everyone.

Ever notice how the best crews run on that kind of respect? It's not about rules, it's about not making your mess someone else's problem. That foreman gets it.

Holding out a 2x4 for a guy to cut is one thing, but running a non-HEPA vac on drywall dust is a code violation on most commercial sites here in Phoenix. That foreman wasn't being a hero, he was covering his own ass. The real issue is the crew lead not knowing the spec in the first place. Switching vacs mid-job is good but it's a bandaid on a bigger problem with how that team bids their prep.
