Caught using the wrong chalk line for 8 years on storefront layouts

I redid a 40 foot retail front in Denver last Tuesday and kept hitting double lines on the slab. My helper asked why I was snapping a plumb chalk line for horizontal work, and it hit me I never owned a flat chalk reel. Has anyone else gone that long with the wrong tool and only noticed because somebody younger called it out?

Swapped mine out after a buddy borrowed my reel and handed it back with a real confused look. Took me a full minute to realize he was holding a plumb bob that I'd rigged to a line wheel for years. Once I got a proper flat chalk box with a brake, horizontal work got way cleaner and faster, no more fighting the spin. Still keep the plumb reel in the truck for vertical stuff, but now I grab the right one without thinking.
