Got some hard truth about my crew's cleanup process on a strip mall job

We were finishing a 12,000 sq ft retail shell in Columbus last month, and the GC pulled me aside. He said, 'Your guys are leaving a mountain of cut-off zip ties and empty caulk tubes in the ceiling grid, and my electrician is finding them.' I argued it was just small stuff, but he showed me a photo of a grid tile sagging from the weight. I made a new rule: every guy gets a small bucket on their belt for trash, and we do a final walk with a magnet roller before we call it a day. It added maybe 30 minutes to our punch-out, but the next inspection was clean. Has anyone else had a GC call them out on something small that actually turned out to be a bigger deal?

Our site super found a whole coffee cup up in the ceiling tiles once. Good call on the bucket rule, and yeah @finley_wells66 has a point, you gotta actually look for the plastic junk.

Magnet rollers don't pick up plastic zip ties.
