Guy at a supply house in Tampa told me to stop using mixing paddles on my cordless drill, said I'd burn out the motor. I figured he was just trying to sell me a $300 mixer.
So for two years I've been mixing thin set and grout with a cheap paddle on my Milwaukee drill. It always got hot but I just let it cool down. Last week the smoke came out. Dead motor. Looking back the guy was probably right but I don't know if I can justify dropping cash on a dedicated mixer for a small crew. Anyone else run drills into the ground like this or am I the only one being cheap?

Smoke came out" sounds dramatic. Bet it still works fine.
