Had a sub tell me 'it's fine' about a beam placement and walked away

I was on a job site in Denver last Wednesday checking steel placements for a 3 story office shell. This one ironworker just shrugged and said 'it's fine' when I asked about a beam that was 2 inches off the layout. I had to pull the drawings and show him the column centerline before he'd even grab a wrench. Has anyone else had subs just blow off critical specs like that?

Why would someone just shrug off a 2 inch error? That's a big gap that could mess up the whole load path. Get it on paper or get it fixed.

C'mon, a 2 inch gap isn't gonna collapse the whole house.
