Had a talk with a city inspector that changed how I see commercial permits

I was working on a retail build-out in Denver last month and a city inspector stopped by. He told me most contractors rush the life safety drawings just to get permits fast. I always thought speed was the goal, but he showed me three projects where rushing caused major rework later. Now I'm taking more time on the upfront planning and it's saved me from two change orders already. Has anyone else had an inspector give advice that actually helped your bottom line?

Why would you slow down if the drawings are already approved?

Stopping to double check saved me a redo last month.
