Hit 1,000,000 board feet of lumber used across all my projects last Friday
I was just adding up the totals for end-of-year paperwork and almost spit out my coffee. Anyone else ever run the numbers on their career totals and get caught off guard?

Started doing the math on my total lumber consumption about a month ago and had to double check my records three times (was sure I messed something up). It's wild how those little projects add up over the years, board by board. Definitely made me stop and appreciate the sheer volume of work behind those numbers.

Have you ever tried keeping a running tally by project type? It really helped me get a handle on where the wood was going. I started a simple spreadsheet a couple years back after a similar shock, just tracking rough board footage and cost per project. It's not perfect but it stops the "where did all that wood go" panic when I look at my shop totals. The small stuff like jigs and shop fixtures are the real killers, they eat up way more than you think. Also, it makes you way more careful about cutting waste, because you see the numbers right there in black and white. Just being honest, the record keeping is annoying but it pays for itself in saved material over time.
