Hit 47% waste on a Tenant Improvement in Denver and it split our whole crew
We finished a 12,000 square foot office buildout in Denver last month and the dumpster count came back at 47% waste by weight, way above the 25% our contract required. Half the crew said it was the demo debris from the old ceiling grid and carpet, which we can't control. The other half said our framing crew was cutting studs and drywall too sloppy and we should have used a cutting station instead of chopping on sawhorses. I think the real number is somewhere in the middle, but the GC is now asking for waste logs on every job. The guys who want cutting stations say it would have saved us maybe 8 to 10 grand in dumpster swaps. The guys who say it's all demo say the logs are just paperwork theater. What do you all track on a TI, and does a cutting station actually move the number or is it just a feel good fix?
