Hot take: A concrete sub told me his crew uses 5% less water in every mix now

We were talking about a pour for a strip mall foundation in Tempe, and he said the extra slump isn't worth the strength trade-off. Has anyone else's subs made a switch like this recently?

Honestly, "extra slump isn't worth the strength trade-off" sounds like my contractor trying to explain why my patio cracked.

My cousin's deck collapsed last summer because they mixed the concrete too wet. The whole thing just slumped off the posts like pancake batter. Contractor tried to blame the wood, but we all saw the mix was basically soup. It's wild how much that little detail can mess up a whole project.

Had a similar thing with a driveway pour. Got a second opinion from a different concrete guy, which saved a huge headache later. Sometimes you just need to hear it from someone who isn't already on the payroll.
