HVAC unit on the roof died mid-July in Phoenix

Last week the AC unit on a 3-story office building we're renovating just quit. Ambient temp was 115 that day. Had to scramble to find a rental chiller and crane it up there. Took three days to get a new unit ordered and installed. Anyone dealt with rooftop unit failures during a heatwave and found a faster fix?

Man, that's brutal. Had a similar thing happen with a walk-in cooler at a restaurant I was helping a buddy with last August (in Vegas, so same kinda heat). The compressor just blew a gasket on a Friday afternoon right before dinner rush. We ended up having to rent one of those portable AC units from Sunbelt Rentals and just aimed it into the vent, worked good enough to keep the milk from spoiling until Monday.

Aimed it into the vent" - you sure that was actually cooling anything or just blowing hot air around? Portable units in 115 degree heat are basically fighting a losing battle unless they're rated for that kind of ambient temps. Did you check the rental specs first?
