I was wrong about those new self-healing concrete mixes for parking garages

For a long time, I thought it was just a fancy sales pitch that would never work on a real job. We were doing a 400-space garage in Cincinnati and the spec called for a specific mix with these little capsules in it. I argued hard to just use our standard high-strength mix and save the client money. The project manager showed me data from a test pour they monitored for two years, and the crack repair rate was over 70%. Seeing those actual numbers from a similar structure changed my mind. Has anyone else been pushed to use a material they doubted, only to have it prove itself?

It's funny how often we get stuck on what we know. I see it with my dad refusing to try the new phone update that would actually help him. The proof is always in actually seeing it work, not just hearing about it.

Actually seeing it work isn't always the best proof. Sometimes the old way is just more reliable, and new updates can break things that worked fine. Being stuck on what you know can be a smart way to avoid new problems.
