OSHA inspector in Denver showed me a tape trick I still use
I was working a buildout on a retail space in Denver last spring. An OSHA inspector walked through and saw we had extension cords running across a main walkway with just those rubber ramps over them. He didn't write us up but he showed me how to tape the cords flat to the floor using duct tape in a specific pattern. Been doing it that way ever since and nobody's tripped on a cord at my sites. Anyone else pick up a dumb simple safety tip from an inspector?

I mean I think people kind of forget that inspectors usually want to help you stay safe not just write tickets. That tape pattern thing is gold though because most guys just slap a strip of tape across a cord and call it good but the way you fold it under itself and angle the edges changes everything about how people's feet catch on it. Idk maybe it's just me but I've seen so many trips happen from cords that were "taped down" but the tape was just laid flat with no thought to the angle of approach or the fact that tape curls up after a day of foot traffic. That inspector probably saw a hundred cords a week and figured showing you a five second trick was better than any fine.

Did I just learn more about tape patterns in 30 seconds than I have in my entire life of tripping over my own extension cords?
