Rant: The new spec for firestop sealant on a Phoenix job site is a nightmare

We used the new 'fast-cure' formula on a Tuesday and by Thursday it had cracked clean through on half the floor penetrations. Has anyone else had this happen with the updated ASTM E814 stuff?

My buddy's crew saw the same fast-cure cracking on their last job, total mess lol.

Did they try slowing down the cure time or was it just a bad batch?

That fast-cure formula is a nightmare for sure. Had the same thing happen on a retrofit downtown Chicago, cracks showed up in less than 48 hours and we had to tear it all out and redo it with the old stuff. The spec writer probably never actually tested it on a real job site with temperature swings. Solidarity on that mess.
