Showerthought: My boss swapped out rated lumber on a school project
We were framing a new school building, and the boss brought in lower grade wood to save money. It still met code, but barely, and felt wrong for a kids' place. I needed the paycheck, so I didn't question it out loud. Looking back, that choice sits heavy on me even though nothing went wrong. Has anyone faced a similar pick between cost and what feels right? How do you deal with that gut check on site?

You said it met code, so that's the baseline for safety. Saving money there lets the budget cover other important things.

Right, @lee_gibson87, why overspend when code already covers the basics?
