The steel stud framer who told me to skip the engineered trusses saved us $18k

Tbh, I thought he was just trying to avoid coordination headaches when he insisted on stick-framing the roof over engineered trusses, but after seeing the 2 week delay on the truss delivery schedule at our Reno job, he was spot on. Has anyone else had a sub talk you out of a 'better' system that actually worked out cheaper and faster?

That "skipping the engineered trusses" bit hit home for me. We had a similar thing happen on a cabin build last year, the framer talked us out of this fancy closed panel system and just built it with regular lumber on site. Saved us a chunk of change and honestly the roof went up in half the time it woulda taken waiting for the factory to ship. Sometimes the old school way just works better when you're on the clock and the weather's turning. Glad your gut call on trusting the guy paid off too.
