Vent: Saw a new hotel going up downtown and wondered why no one uses steel framing anymore
I was walking through Nashville last week and noticed a 12-story hotel going up with nothing but wood framing. The crew told me it's a hybrid system, but it got me thinking. I've seen wood frame apartment buildings go up fast and cheap, but I also remember that big fire in Atlanta a few years back that took out a whole block of wood frame commercial. Are we trading safety for speed and cost, or is modern fireproofing good enough now? Has anyone here dealt with both and seen which holds up better long term?

Did you see what fireproofing they used on the framing joints?
