Vent: That $500 laser level was a complete waste of money

It was supposed to save us a day on the interior layout for a small retail box. The thing lost calibration after the first wall, and we ended up using our old string lines anyway. Anyone have a brand that actually holds up on a busy site?

Yeah, I've been burned by those fancy ones too. We went through two different brands that couldn't handle the vibration from the scissor lift. Finally just got a basic DeWalt cross-line laser from the big box store. It's not as many features, but the thing gets knocked around and still holds true. Sometimes the simple tool is the right one.

Totally feel that, man. I swear half the "pro" features are just stuff you'll never use but still pay for. My old boss insisted on this fancy rotating laser for foundation work and it died after one season of rough handling. The basic cross line lasers just have fewer parts to break, so they take the beating and keep working. It's like the tool companies forget we're actually using these things on job sites, not in a lab.
