A salvage diver in Mobile pointed out my umbilical routing was a mess

He said it looked like I was trying to knit a sweater down there. I started using a carabiner to clip the slack to my harness, and it cut my snag count in half. Anyone have a better trick for keeping the hose tidy on a crowded deck?

Man, that carabiner trick is solid. I saw a guy on a barge job use a big plastic spring clamp from the hardware store. He clipped it right to his weight belt, fed the hose through the handle. Looked dumb but it worked. Said it was softer on the hose than metal and he could just toss it in his bag.

Seen that kind of thing before... a buddy of mine used a big plastic clothes peg for his airline on deck. People laughed until their metal hooks started chewing up the rubber. Sometimes the goofy looking fix is the one that saves your gear and your day.

Yeah, the spring clamp idea is clever for sure. But clipping it to a weight belt seems off. That constant tug from the hose would be a real pain, maybe even pull the belt out of place. I'd loop it through a D-ring on the harness instead, keeps the strain off your waist. What kind of clamp did your guy use, one of those black ones with the red handles?
