A tender on the Conoco platform told me he checks his gauge twice and I tried it
Last month I was working a job off Fourchon and a tender about half my age told me his old supervisor made everyone check their depth gauge twice before every splash. I figured it was overkill but I started doing it anyway, just a quick second look before I break the surface. Two days later I caught a reading that was off by 8 feet and it would have put me right into the riser clamp. Little habit, saved me a headache, maybe saved me more. Anybody else pick up a second-check habit from someone younger?
