Ditched the helmet comms for hand signals on this last Gulf job

After 14 years diving, I finally stopped using the hardwire comms box on shallow water jobs in the Gulf. Too many times the line got snagged or the topside guy was half asleep, so I switched to old school hand signals and a slate. My tender thinks I'm nuts, but we finished a 3 day pipeline inspection in Port Fourchon 4 hours early because I could see his bucket hand signs through the viz instead of guessing at static. Anyone else go back to basics on low viz days?
