Lost my air supply for 10 seconds during a pier inspection in Seattle last month

I was doing a routine inspection on a pier in Elliott Bay, checking some pilings around 40 feet down. My hose slipped off a sharp barnacle and I lost air for what felt like forever. That scare made me switch to double banding every connection now. Has anyone else had a close call that changed their gear setup?

Did you check if that barnacle growth is getting worse in certain spots? I wonder if the pier's location in Elliott Bay near all that ferry traffic and runoff is making the fouling extra nasty compared to other places.

Heard a marine biologist on KUOW say the ferry wash actually stirs up more nutrients for the barnacles, @gray_roberts.
