My old dive partner in Pensacola told me to always carry a spare O-ring in my wetsuit pocket.

I thought it was overkill until my primary mask seal blew at 80 feet on a bridge inspection job. That spare saved the dive and probably my face. Anyone else have a simple piece of gear they never leave topside without?

My old instructor in Monterey insisted on a small backup dive light clipped to my BC. I thought it was just extra weight until a silt out in a kelp forest left me in total darkness. That little light is now the first thing I pack.

That silt out story from @lee627 is why I keep a whistle on my BCD.
