Old supervisor told me hyperbaric welding certs were a waste of time for inland work

Last year on the Ohio River salvage job I got paid an extra $18 an hour for that cert because the client required it, so that supervisor was dead wrong and cost me years of better pay.

Aw man, that's rough. I gotta laugh at myself because I actually turned down a chance to get that cert a few years back because some old timer told me the exact same thing. I was like "yeah, he knows what he's talking about, he's been doing this for 30 years!" Spent the next three summers watching guys with that paper get the gravy jobs while I was stuck doing the grunt work in muddy water. Now every time I see a hyperbaric cert course I just shake my head and think about all that extra money I left on the table. It really is one of those expensive lessons you gotta learn the hard way, I guess.
