Pro tip: my tender in Morgan City told me to always check the umbilical before every splash, and it saved my butt last Tuesday
I used to just glance at the umbilical on deck and trust the tender to have it sorted. My old tender, Reggie, drilled it into me on a job in Morgan City: walk the whole line, hand over hand, every single time. Last Tuesday I found a 4 inch gouge in the outer jacket about 60 feet down that would have been a real problem at 180 feet. Any of you got a pre-dive habit you picked up from someone else that ended up paying off?
