Rant: A simple bolt job on a barge in Mobile Bay took three days
Had to replace a single corroded bolt on a barge's winch assembly. Thought it was a half-day job, tops. The head was so fused we had to chip away the metal around it with a grinder for hours. Then the threads were shot, so we had to tap new ones in the field. Anyone know a better way to deal with seized bolts in saltwater?

Tapping new threads in the field is brutal.

@vera_brown40 knows the struggle, that's for sure. Three days for a bolt job sounds about right when you're dealing with saltwater corrosion. I've had to do the same thing more times than I can count. Chipping away around the head is usually the only option if you don't want to risk snapping it off flush. And tapping new threads in the field is never fun, especially when the alignment is off. You have my sympathy on this one.
