That dive supervisor in Galveston who swore by the ol' hood check
I was on a pipeline job near Galveston last summer, and this old supervisor pulled me aside before my first dive to check my hood seal, not my regs or my knife. He said 'a cold neck means a short shift' and made me re-seat the neck dam three times before I splashed. I laughed it off then, but after a 4-hour shift in murky water with zero leak issues, I never skip that check now. Anyone else got a weird pre-dive ritual from an old-timer that actually stuck?
