I threw away $45 on those monthly train discount cards

For three months I bought the $45 monthly pass for my commute from Silver Spring to DC, thinking I was saving money. But I only ended up going into the office 10 days each month, so I was paying almost $5 per trip. I finally did the math yesterday and realized the single ride tickets would have been under $4 each. Has anyone else overpaid on bulk passes and regretted it?

Dude, the real trap is they're betting on you not doing the math. They know most people will just assume the pass is cheaper and never actually check.

That "thinking I was saving money" line hits close to home. I did the exact same thing with a bus pass in my city a few years back and finally had to sit down with a calculator to realize I was losing about $15 a month.
