My bus route got cancelled mid trip and I had to figure it out
Was on the 42 line heading home from downtown Seattle last Tuesday when the driver pulled over and said the bus broke down. Something with the transmission fluid maybe? I sat there for 20 minutes before they told us to get off and wait for a replacement that never showed. Ended up walking 6 blocks to catch a different bus on 3rd Ave, which made me 45 minutes late. Has anyone else had a transit system just abandon them like that mid route?

Oh man, I gotta say I think you're being too hard on the transit system here. Buses break down sometimes, it's a mechanical thing that happens. They told you what was going on within 20 minutes, that's pretty fast honestly. And you were able to walk to another line and catch a different bus, so it's not like they left you completely stranded. The replacement bus not showing up probably meant they were short staffed or it was stuck in traffic too. Sounds like you still got where you needed to go, just a little later than planned. That's not the same as being abandoned, that's just a minor inconvenience in my book.

Hold up wait - you seriously think 20 minutes of sitting on a dead bus and then being told to just figure it out yourself is "pretty fast"? I can't wrap my head around that. Look I get that breakdowns happen, I've fixed enough machines to know that. But last time I checked, when you pay for a service like public transit you're paying for them to get you where you're going, not to dump you on a random street corner and hope for the best. The fact that a backup bus never showed up isn't a minor hiccup, it's them literally saying "we don't have a plan for this" and leaving you to fend for yourself.

@emery_craig walking to the next line saved me once too, but that doesn't make it ok.
