Question about people who stand right in front of the train doors before letting others off
I always thought it was just rude, but a driver in Chicago explained it actually slows the whole line down by about 30 seconds per stop. Anyone else's transit system have a rule about this?

Haven't we all been the person just trying to get out of the cold or rain though? I get the argument about flow and efficiency, but sometimes you're just trying to get to your platform before the next train because the schedule is tight. Yeah, people should be polite, but on a packed train at rush hour there's no room for anyone to step back. The real fix would be making the platforms wider or the headways shorter, not blaming people for standing in a spot that's basically designed for them to stand.

It's basic physics. You can't pour more coffee into a full cup. I saw a guy in a suit practically get knocked over by a stroller because he was blocking the door at Clark and Lake. That 30 seconds adds up fast, makes everyone late. Just take two steps back. It's not hard.
