Rant: Express bus crowding is half the fare problem, not the bus schedule

Last Tuesday I waited at the 5th and Union stop in Seattle for the 120, and when it finally rolled up it was already packed shoulder to shoulder. I get that the schedule is tight, but I watched three people cram on anyway and we all stood for 40 minutes sweating through our jackets. I actually prefer the slower local route now because at least I get a seat and some room, even if it takes longer. I know everyone wants express speed, but has anyone else just given up on the fast bus because the squeeze isn't worth it?
