Thought the express bus was a scam until I timed it 5 days in a row

I ride the 42 bus from Queensboro Plaza to my job near LaGuardia and always figured the $2.90 express was just a way to squeeze extra cash out of people. Last week I actually timed it, 26 minutes door to door versus 47 on the local, and that was with traffic on Astoria Blvd. Now I feel dumb for grinding it out on the slow bus for 8 months. Anyone else switch to an express route and never look back?
