Had my boss point out I'd been crimping RJ45 connectors upside down for 6 months

Ngl, I got so used to shoving wires into those little slots without checking the tab orientation that every termination I did looked fine but kept failing in the field. He grabbed one, flipped it over, and asked why the clip was facing the floor - felt like a total idiot, anyone else have that moment where you realize you've been doing something backwards the whole time?

Got a story that fits. Last year I spent a whole weekend installing a new toilet in my half-bath. Took me like six hours, had the thing snugged down, caulked around the base, looked perfect. Next day I go to flush it and the handle is on the wrong side. Had to unbolt the whole damn thing, lift it off, spin it 180 degrees, and reinstall. Felt like an absolute clown because I never bothered to check which way the tank faced before I started tightening bolts. That's the thing with these small mistakes. They're not life or death but they make you question your basic competence for a solid week.

The clip was facing the floor" - that line got me. It's not just work stuff though. I notice people doing everyday things backwards all the time. Like putting the milk in first before the cereal. Or hanging toilet paper the wrong way. I swear half the population has been loading the dishwasher wrong their whole lives. It's like we're all just going through the motions without stopping to check if we're upside down.
